Hi Reader,
The first week of the new year can feel like a fresh start, and the desire to make approximately 8,564 resolutions is strong. Here we are now nearly month after the beginning of a new year… and all those shiny resolutions may have begun to dull. Folks polled by Forbes reported that only 8% were able to keep to their resolution commitments past the one month point.
There are many factors to point to in order to answer the “why” behind the notorious lack of follow-through with new year’s commitments (though ambiguous goals and lack of support top the list).
Perhaps the reason doesn’t lie in our motivation and willpower.
Perhaps it’s really more to do with the underbelly of our day to day and the seasons we’re in— both actual weather seasons and the less predictable seasons of life.
If you're living in the northern hemisphere like me, it's also the darkest time of year-- when trees lie dormant, and the nighttime sky is more readily seen than sunshine. The chill in the air coaxes us under blankets, into sweatpants and warm socks.
This darkness is an invitation to set intentions. We make our plans, yes, but instead of diving in headfirst, the long nights and cozy vibes invite us to wade slowly. Take a cue from nature and rest up-- for spring will soon be here. The time will come for the seeds sown to germinate and grow.
And for my friends in the southern hemisphere-- enjoy all that vigorous, sunshine-y energy. Soak it in as you cultivate what you want your year to look like.
No matter where you are: January 1 is a day, and Rome wasn't built in one. Lean into the season of change. If you fall of the bandwagon or break a resolution, acknowledge it— and know that tomorrow is a new day.
Warm hugs,
Kara

For the home: I just refreshed my bathroom hand soaps with Blueland's tablets. It's been a while since I've used their products (I had been using a refillable one recently), and have been loving how they smell.
I want to tell you exactly which scent I'm using right now, but I get the variety pack and am not sure which made it in the dispenser this round!
