Happy New Year 🥳

Dear Reader,

🎉Happy 2025! 🎉

Each new turn around the sun is an invitation to look back at what worked, what didn’t, and what we want to bring forth into the world.

Our goals can be lofty, and they can be subtle. We can stretch for the summit of the mountain in one year, or decide a few picnics around the base are more than enough.

Whatever wonderful ideas you have for yourself for this upcoming year, I have a question for you:

Can you have the grace of a beginner?

The grace of a beginner is the open-mindedness and humility to not just learn something new, but a willingness to be bad at something.

True growth and change can only happen if we’re willing to wade through the sticky, messy parts. If we’re willing to climb the learning curve hand over hand, one foot in front of the other, even if there’s egg on our face.

In our mind’s eye we want to flit gracefully through life, even through big shifts and changes.

Change, by nature, is messy.

We don’t learn a new dance without trying it a few times, stepping on a few toes (or having our own toes trod upon). Yet, we expect to waltz through life’s shifts with practiced ease. We want to know all of the answers to what is down that road ahead? before we step a foot onto the dirt.

Here's the thing: it’s the approach that counts. Sure, we can prepare. If we’re going on a trip, we can at least make sure we’re packed, that we have some road snacks. If we’re making career changes, we can make sure that we have a safety net to fall back on.

Then we have to take the steps. We can do so with uncertainty in our hearts, looking everywhere for all the answers, taking care not to do anything wrong. Or we can laugh at the puddles we step in, ask for help when needed, and enjoy the birdsong along the way-- even our hair is sticking up on end and we have no idea where we are.

We're just starting, after all. Or maybe just starting over. How else are we to learn besides getting messy and doing?

Some tips to bring your dreams for 2025 into reality:

  • Write your dreams in minute detail.
  • Plan them in your life now— incorporate them into your routine.
  • Approach the future— the unknown— with an open heart and mind.

Wishing you a bright and beautiful new year ahead,
Kara
