Happy Water Wednesday!
I have a fun little story to share about my weekend. I hosted my first Woods & Wisdom forest walk + yoga with Lala Yoga this weekend. On Sunday, in fact. The day the clocks changed.
Now, I had planned this walk a couple of months in advance, not realizing that DST was going to strike. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to when the government decides to cut the top off the blanket of time, and sew it to the bottom, thus making our days longer. (Right? That’s how it’s supposed to work?)
I learned late last week that Sunday, March 8 was the fated day. It still didn’t click that this would affect my sunrise walk.
I went about preparing for the walk, set out my accoutrement the night before, and went to bed. It hit like a thunderclap when I was in the car, on the way to the walk, that it would be dark when we were supposed to begin.
It was too late to reschedule.
It was too late to reach out the registrants.
I raced home to grab as many working headlamps I could find, and drove to the park, praying the gates would be open (most parks are sunrise to sunset— and we’ve established that it was pitch black outside), and furiously thinking of how to best handle the situation.
Mercifully, the gates were open, and the parking lot was lit. Instead of walking in the woods in the dark with headlamps (which probably would have been kind of cool), we did the yoga portion first. Facing east, we moved through our gentle flow as a cardinal heralded the dawn of a new day, and the world slowly grew brighter. When we finished, it was daylight, and we moved into the forest, noticing how the light sifted through the trees as the sun continued its ascent.
It ended up being absolutely perfect.
It brings to mind several colloquialisms:
“Making lemonade out of lemons.”
“The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”
Things really do work out for the better. (I think I’m going to keep the yoga portion first for future walks).
I’d love to know, do you have a “best laid plan” story? Something that didn’t quite go as you had thought, but worked out anyway? Hit reply and let me know— I read ‘em all.
Big hugs,
Quote I'm pondering
"There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all of time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and it will be lost."
